Community Health Nurse (CHN) – Canaan Health

As a CHN, you will play a vital role in promoting, protecting, and restoring the health of individuals, families, and communities. You will educate, prevent, and reduce the incidence of disease, disability, and mortality. Working within the framework of Primary Health Care, you will collaborate with the health care team to enhance clients’ capacity to adapt to life’s challenges and changes.

Responsibilities:

Provide comprehensive community health services in collaboration with the health care team.

Educate and empower clients to improve their health and well-being.

Promote disease prevention and control measures.

Deliver quality care in alignment with Inuit societal values and the Inuktut language.
 Foster a representative public service and engage in cross-cultural collaboration.
 Contribute to the ongoing professional development of the team.

Requirements:

Bachelor of Nursing or Diploma in Nursing with equivalencies.

Certificate in Public Health, Health Canada clinical skills course, or advanced practice course.

Experience in home care nursing or relevant clinical experience.

Minimum of two years of Remote Community Health Nursing experience or 2 years of ER experience or 2 years of ICU experience (or provision of 3000 hpractice hours).
 Basic CPR certification with annual re-certification.

Eligibility for registration with the Registered Nurses Association of the Northwest Territories and Nunavut (RNANT/NU) with annual re-certification.

Possession of one or more of the following certifications at the time of hire: Basic Trauma Life Support (BTLS), Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS), Neonatal Resuscitation (NALS), fetal monitoring, Critical Incident Stress Management.
 COVID-19 vaccination is mandatory.

Proficiency in Inuktut, English, and French is advantageous.


Knowledge of Inuit communities, culture, land, and Inuit Qaujimajatuqangit is beneficial.

Experience working in a northern cross-cultural environment is an asset.
